The Contest
CONTEST CATEGORIES
The contest will have four categories you will be judged on:
- • Interview
- • Bar Wear
- • "Pecs and Personality"
- • Full Leather (leather attitude) with a 90 second speech.
INTERVIEW - The interview is held in private, Saturday afternoon. You will be asked questions by our panel of judges. The category has the highest scoring value in the contest. The goal of the interviews is for the judges to get to know the contestants, their personality, experience level, communication skills, etc. Each contestant will be interviewed (their sequence drawn by lot) by the Judges. Questions will be asked about experience, feelings, beliefs within the Leather community, and an overall opportunity for the Judges to get to know the contestant. We are looking for the person who will best represent the Michigan Leather Community. Knowledge of the Leather Community will be helpful The Leatherman's Handbook is one useful guide on this subject. Have a good understanding of the hanky codes will also be a helpful tool. It is also good to know about current events. These categories take place during the Mr. Michigan Leather Contest program held Saturday night.
BAR WEAR - This is the contestant's introduction to the audience. Initial dress is the contestant wearing an outfit they would wear to look good in when going out to a bar or event. This "casual dress" must include leather.
"PECS & PERSONALITY" - Each contestant will have an opportunity to show off their "best assets". Make it original and fun. Express your individuality. No nudity please. Remember, this is a public event, so choice of clothing must be appropriate and "tasteful" within the context of the leather community at large and public.
FULL LEATHER (Leather Attitude) and 90-SECOND SPEECH - This can include, but is not limited to, full leather uniform, chaps, codpiece and vest, etc. Each contestant will be judged on their overall appearance in leather on stage. Judges will be looking for how well your gear fits you, your attitude and your overall appeal in leather. The subject for your 90-second speech will be communicated to you prior to the contest weekend. Judges will be looking to see how you composed you are and how well you can articulate your thoughts in front of a crowd.
CONTESTANTS ARE RESPONSIBLE for their own accommodations, food, and attire for the contest.
WINNER'S PRIZE PACKAGE:
Includes IML weekend fees, accommodations and travel expenses, $500, Titleholder Vest, Titleholder business cards, plus more.
